Current Concepts on Canine Epilepsy: From Myth to Reality ( Dr. Podell Board Certified Neurologist)

The onslaught of available information regarding epilepsy to pet owners can be overwhelming and difficult to comprehend.  The purpose of this talk is to help owners understand the concepts of what is an epileptic seizure, when to perform additional tests, and how to sort through treatment options for their epileptic pet.

 

Dr. Podell is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is board certified in Neurology. His prior education includes a BA with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Masters of Science in Physiology and Pharmacology from Tel-Aviv University and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University in 1988. He completed his internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City in 1989 and neurology residency at The Ohio State University in 1992. Dr. Podell served as a Full Professor and the Director of the Comparative Neurology Service at The Ohio State University from 1992 through 2002. He currently is head of Neurology and Neurosurgery at Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Northbrook , Illinois and serves as an Adjunct Full Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois .

Dr. Podell has published over 150 articles and book chapters and lectured worldwide on various topics in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery. His goal is to provide the highest quality of compassionate care to small animals with all types of neurological and neurosurgical problems.
